Murals/Street Art of Boston / Stylish Collab with Trail of Glitz

IT’S FINALLY HERE!! I am so excited for this post, probably one of my favorite one’s by far.
This has been something we have been preparing for a while, we just needed to hunt the murals and street art down. We all have hidden gems in our cities, you just need to look a little extra hard for some.

Betsy, aka Trail of Glitz and I have teamed up to collaborate on bringing this to our audience. Betsy and I know the struggle of finding some nice street art to take pictures with, but when we do we don’t waste time and set up photoshoot dates. We get really excited whenever we have found a hidden gem by accident and already know that we will be having a photo-op ASAP. If you and your bestie don’t have photoshoot dates, what are you doing?

Personally I also know the struggle of finding murals/street art online but no direction! Why tease me like that?? You say it’s around me but WHERE?! Sure you’re keeping it a mystery but some of us are not up to play detective. You can feel (read) my frustration haha.
So from experience I am making this easy for YOU! Murals and street art WITH location address.

Keep reading to find out even better news!

P.S The following are mostly T-accessible, they are focused in greater Boston areas and it's surrounding areas. Even though there were a few we were unable to get a photo-op with because we were impatient to get this blog post up and ready for you, we still have included the picture of art and location as well.

Stylish Snapshot: With this wall I knew this dress would be perfect. The handkerchief bottom cut gave it the perfect “butterfly” flow. I was worried the blue would blend in with the wall but having some movement of the dress and arms helped make this picture more effective.

Stylish Snapshot: The white wings are longer, making one look slimmer and very focused. Pretty much anything stands out with white so I decided a pink jumpsuit would still make it a soft and pretty touch.

Stylish Snapshot: This wall is really big, so it was hard to get the whole wall with me in it. Either way, I suggest if there is a certain pattern or color on the wall that you like, choose to take your picture focusing on that spot. We loved the face in particular so we tried to just focus on getting pictures with that side of the wall. This way you can use the wall in multiple ways without moving locations.

Artist: "Mayor's Mural Crew"
Stylish Snapshot: This mural is in an odd location. It is a block away from the one above but it is in a drive through of a building and was oddly locked up when we went to find it. I’d say walk by it if you’re around the area and check out if maybe you get luckier than us. Still decided to include it because it’s fairly close.

Artist: None found
Stylish Snapshot: We randomly found this door on our way to our next mural and couldn’t pass it up so we had used it as part of a photo-op. Warning, it’s a door to a bar haha, the Galaway House, so try not to lean against it unless you’re looking to get knocked out by a door.

Stylish Snapshot: Wow, this one surprised me, these are the hidden gems I am talking about. Had I known this house existed, I would have moved in by now. Not that I can but still, amazing art and so spacious for photos. There is a lot you can do here, get creative!

Stylish Snapshot: I love this wall, so colorful and fun! This wall has a public parking lot right across it. If you plan to drive to some, this one is perfect. Please look both ways when crossing the street if you plan on taking pictures from across the street because cars come in quick through that street.

Artist: Jessie and Katey
Stylish Snapshot: After seeing this house I wonder if I can do the same to mine? I mean it’s gorgeous! Betsy and I really enjoyed this spot, we took longer than expected because we were having so much fun posing with this colorful house. It’s a little tricky dressing for this house because of the patterns and its color palette but as long as you don’t wear too much dark colors or crazy patterns I think you should be more than ready for a photoshoot here.

Artist: Imagine
Stylish Snapshot: This mural was right next to the house above, although in a tight spot, the fun pattern on this wall calls for some attention.

Stylish Snapshot: I knew I wanted to wear some leather and graphic t-shirts for these walls. This is why my “#Latina” shirt was the first thing I thought about and I am absolutely obsessed with these photos! They just make you look powerful and overall badass.

Stylish Snapshot: Although we didn’t take a picture with all murals, Ink Block has been updated with new murals and they are all next to each other so this is definitely
There is a parking lot next to it for $14 before 9am and if you don’t go at a busy time I would go for parking at the public parking lot in Whole Foods, they are really good about letting you park there for the murals.

Artist: Cey Adams
Stylish Snapshot: Underground is known for their amazing art work, these walls are perfect for street style. Bring your badass outfit and make these walls yours! No heels though, trust me not worth it. There are a lot of stones in front of the murals which makes it impossible to walk or keep your balance. We learned this the hard way.

Stylish Snapshot: We came into this hotel to change for one of our mural hunts since they were all close by, but as we did that we also used it as a quick photoshoot. Hotel Studio is popular for its great artwork inside the hotel. We took advantage of the blue door since Casa Cana, the restaurant was closed at the time but it has several parts where one can get creative. We included a few parts of the hotel.

Stylish Snapshot: Unfortunately we didn’t get to this alley way full of graffiti but if you are looking for a more urban street style art this is the way to go. Plus it is very accessible through car and public transportation. I suggest to go early on a weekday since it may be a high transited walkway during the afternoon.

Super A's mural "Resonance" now up in Dewey Square. (Jesse Costa/WBUR)

Artist: Known as Super A, birth name Stefan Thelen
Stylish Snapshot: We also didn’t get to take a photoshoot with this wall but if you’re near the area you should definitely pay a visit even if it’s to admire. It’s a sight to see for sure and fairly new to the area.

KEY NOTES:
  • GIVE CREDIT TO ARTIST —> Please keep in mind these are pieces of work the artists were kind enough to contribute to our city, therefore giving the artist credit is always a plus, they will appreciate their art being appreciated and noticed by you.

  • PHOTOGRAPHY ADVICE —> I have learned the best pictures with these walls is to step 2 inches in front of the wall, this way you focus well in front of the wall. Do not lean against the wall for pictures or else you’ll blend in with the wall and you’re a piece of art as well so you deserve to stand out.

There are a lot huh? Well there is MORE. Yup, Betsy and I decided to only share the main ones in Boston for now. I’m such a hypocrite I know, talking about teases and here I am not being any better. Trust me it will be so worth it. For our next blog collaboration we will be presenting you the murals and street art surrounding Chelsea, Revere, Lynn, and more. We will announce release date mid-fall.

I hope you all enjoy this blog post. We really enjoyed compiling it for you all. Comment below which one is your favorite wall or street art. If you’d like to suggest any murals or street art that you’d like to see included for next blog post comment below!

Now that you have finished reading my blog for some stylish tips, head over to Betsy’s blog, TrailofGlitz.com and check out her take on the murals and location tips! Be sure to leave a comment when visiting from my blog and tell her I say “HI” haha.

Until next time!
