Preparation for a Studio Photoshoot

Today's post isn't your typical Fashion Blogger post, but it definitely has Fashion in it and was one of the most thrilling experiences I've had.

This had been a long time coming for me. Personally, I knew that I had a certain vision in my head for a Fashion studio shoot, I knew I wanted it be very fashion forward and that if I were only to do it one time I wanted it to be fun and out there in style.

If this is the case for you, don't rush!
Studio photoshoots can get pricey and you want to get your money's worth!

Step 1) Check as many portfolios as you can. This includes Instagram most of the time, it's an easy way to not make a serious inquiry yet but still see what type of work/photography you're dealing with.
Many professional photographers also have a gallery or presentation of their work, go check it out if you're intimidated to contact photographer and you're not absolutely sure you want to book just yet.

Step 2) Don't be shy to ask for rates! You're not making a complete booking, if you have a specific shoot in mind like editorials, model portfolios, fashion portfolio, and commercials etc. Ask questions like "I'm looking for *blank* and I like these pictures you took, or I was looking for something like this" Give examples! it's your shoot and the photographer will appreciate the visuals.

Step 3) Book your shoot!! This is the fun/exciting/"EEEEK" moment. At least for the first one it is.

Step 4) Go to your photoshoot early! It's good to arrive a few minutes earlier so you can have the opportunity to talk and get to know your photographer beforehand and that way you'll be more comfortable for your photoshoot.
Believe me, I was a nervous wreck for my first studio shoot even though i'm constantly having photoshoots.

Step 5) Because you are paying money for this shoot make it worth it! Get your investments worth! Ask the photographer for posing ideas, bring different outfits if you can, preferably something easy to change into.
Personally what I did for my hour shoot was bring different tops and shoes that I could easily change into to get a new look, I brought different fun lip colors that I could change into and although I didn't switch up my hair I could have easily made a bun or a ponytail here and there to have a different look as the shoot went on. Bring props! Ask your photographer if it's okay to bring hats, jewelry that you can easily throw on, I brought confetti but that's just me haha.

Step 6) The most IMPORTANT thing is to have FUN! Let loose and enjoy being in front of a camera, remember you booked this and the pictures are yours to keep! Don't forget to thank your photographer for being amazing and patient (assuming they will be)

Here are the results of my first fashion studio shoot! I got lucky and got my first booking with Ally Schmaling in Boston, Massachusetts and she was EXACTLY what I was looking for as a photographer and her colorful studio setting won me instantly and made this vision come alive. She made MAGIC happen!! I'm not lying... take a look for yourself...

I KNOW! I'm still not over it!
These are just a couple of the fabulous shots Ally got. THANK YOU ALLY SO SO MUCH!
I hope you all get yourselves an Ally on your studio photoshoot experience!
